Surgeon hit with several violations reopens center east of Queens

Nowadays, plastic surgery clinics are easy to find in or near Queens, New York. However, people who are willing to undergo this kind of surgery should be cautious and check the reputation of the center and its doctors before undergoing any procedure.

Recently, a doctor found himself under scrutiny after he reopened his clinic, even after facing several sanctions from the Department of Public Health and other agencies. The clinic, which is less than an hour's drive from Queens, performs out-patient surgery and had been closed for a time. Last June, the doctor had his license suspended after the DPH found numerous violations that were considered public health risks.

The violations were for rusted equipment and a non-operational fire alarm system. Worn out brushes on clean instruments and an unlocked refrigerator for medications were also cited. The doctor-previously fined $5000 for negligence by the state in 2007-denied the claims. The doctor is saying he voluntarily closed the center, as the building that housed it had to undergo repairs as a result of the damage from Superstorm Sandy.

Like most surgeries, plastic surgery is about precision from the diagnosis, all the way up to the surgery itself. Although there are a lot of factors involved, a doctor's knowledge and skill, as well as a hospital or clinic's facilities are the most crucial. When those two factors are considered questionable, the likelihood of medical negligence increases. Surgical errors, infections, organ damage and serious injury can become a distinct possibility.

Whether the issue is plastic surgery or any other surgical procedure, a Queens resident who suspects that a medical practitioner has been negligent may wish to seek legal advice. A legal professional may help the person to obtain medical records, check a doctor's medical background and obtain other relevant information that may be necessary if a patient decides to file a medical malpractice lawsuit.
