Pedestrian accidents can be costly

As many pedestrians in New York already know, the risk of suffering injuries during a traffic accident is an ineradicable reality of life. Nationwide, a total of 76,000 pedestrian injuries were reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2012. That amounts to approximately nine injuries every hour. Moreover, according to the NHTS, more than 12 pedestrians were killed on average each day across the country due to traffic accidents.

Wrong-way driver involved in 3-vehicle crash

Four people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on New York's FDR Drive on Nov. 13, reportedly. While a wrong-way driver appeared to be involved in the incident, the cause of the accident was not immediately ascertained, according to authorities. Nor did police immediately file any charges in relation to the fatal incident.

New York bus accident injures 27

An accident involving a bus, a tractor-trailer and a car on Interstate 81 in New York in the early morning hours of Nov. 6 left one person in critical condition and injured 26 others. The critically injured man was behind the wheel of the bus, and the other injured individuals were among the 52 passengers on board. The accident took place in the highway's southbound lanes near Syracuse at approximately 2:30 a.m.

White Plains firefighter charged with DWI in fatal crash

A New York firefighter has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and DWI following an early morning car crash that killed a Port Chester woman and injured her husband on Nov. 3. Authorities are running tests to determine if the 34-year-old man, who is a member of the White Plains Fire Department, had drugs in his system at the time of the accident.

New York driver struck, killed while waiting for tow truck

An Oct. 29 accident left a 21-year-old woman dead in Suffolk County, reportedly. According to police, the woman became involved in the crash while waiting for a tow truck on Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore shortly after noon.

What is Erb's Palsy?

Approximately one or two of every thousand babies born in New York and around the country will have a condition known as Erb's palsy. This is a serious form of brachial plexus palsy that could affect the shoulder and the arm of the child for life. It may be overcome with active therapy, but treatment will not be effective for all affected children.
