Wrong-way driver involved in 3-vehicle crash

Four people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on New York's FDR Drive on Nov. 13, reportedly. While a wrong-way driver appeared to be involved in the incident, the cause of the accident was not immediately ascertained, according to authorities. Nor did police immediately file any charges in relation to the fatal incident.

Reportedly, four individuals were transported to the hospital after the crash, and officials described their injuries as serious. The 33-year-old driver of a Kia involved in the wreck was critically injured, and a female passenger in the vehicle, 28, also suffered injuries in the crash. The drivers of the two other vehicles were also hurt; however, the extent of their injuries was not immediately disclosed.

According to police, the Kia entered FDR Drive on the East 34th Street exit ramp at around 4 a.m. The vehicle proceeded south in the northbound lanes for about 10 blocks before the auto accident occurred. A police officer followed the vehicle but was unable to intercept it before it collided with a Honda Pilot and a Chevrolet Traverse.

When motorists default on their obligation to obey the rules of the road, an accident may occur, resulting in injuries or death. While this particular case has yet to be adjudicated, many traffic accidents in New York are the result of distracted driving or impaired driving, two forms of actionable behavior. Thus, many auto accidents give rise to personal injury claims in civil court.

Negligent drivers may be held liable for the accidents they cause, including the financial losses suffered by victims of the accident. These financial losses may stem from medical bills, rehabilitation expenses and lost wages if the victim was forced to miss time from work.
