Pedestrian killed in NYC bus accident in Brooklyn

At about 6 p.m. on Dec. 21, a 78-year-old man was hit by a New York City bus as he was walking in the East Flatbush area of Brooklyn. The 57-year-old male bus driver was turning from Farragut Road onto New York Avenue when he hit the pedestrian. The man who was hit died at the scene.

New York man charged with DWI after fatal crash

On Dec. 6, a 71-year-old New York driver crossed the double yellow line on Route 25 in Greenport, causing a fatal car accident. The driver, who was charged with driving while intoxicated, is the owner of a local business. His Chevrolet pickup truck collided with a 2006 Honda after he crossed into oncoming traffic. Both drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. The passenger in the Honda, a 22-year-old Peconic man, was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital where he died of his injuries.

3 killed in chain reaction New York crash

Three New York residents lost their lives in a three-vehicle crash in the Ontario County town of Phelps on Dec. 16. The accident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at the intersection of Route 14 and Bostwick Road.

Drunk driver jumps curb and hits 5 pedestrians

On Dec. 10, a drunk driving accident in New York City injured seven people including the driver believed to be responsible. The accident took place in Herald Square at about 9:50 p.m. when the 34-year-old driver jumped a curb on 34th Street. Five pedestrians were struck, and a passenger in the accused woman's vehicle was also injured.

Medication mix-up caused patient's death, hospital confirms

New York residents might take interest in a case out of Oregon where a hospital reportedly admitted to causing the death of a 65-year-old woman through a medication mix-up. The medical error happened at a health care facility in Bend, where the patient died on Dec. 3, according to authorities.

Vehicle-pedestrian accident in New York kills woman

A vehicle-pedestrian accident killed a 36-year-old mother of three from Hebron and seriously injured a 40-year-old woman on Dec. 1. The pair was taking a walk along Route 197 in Argyle when a Buick sedan heading southbound struck them from behind. According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the pedestrians were walking along the shoulder of the road facing oncoming traffic in the northbound lane. The sedan was heading southbound, and the 58-year-old driver from Salem swung out of the lane in an attempt to pass a vehicle when he struck the women.

New York wrong-way crash kills 2

At around 11 p.m. on Nov. 23, a 46-year-old woman was driving a Buick west in the eastbound lanes of Route 109 in East Farmingdale when reportedly she struck a Kia head-on. Officers believe that the Buick's driver was under the influence at the time of the accident, stating that they noticed a strong alcohol of odor on her body and breath. They also recovered several beer bottles from her car.

Causes of facial palsy in New York babies

Babies who are born during long or hard labors may suffer from a condition known as facial nerve palsy. This results in the loss of voluntary movement of the baby's facial muscles. While there is no way to determine the cause of most facial palsy cases, there are several factors that could increase the risk of the injury.
