New York traffic collision kills 27-year-old woman

Local police responded to the scene of a collision involving a Dodge Charger and Mercury Marquis. The incident took place in the Bronx around 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Cross Bronx Expressway and Rosendale Avenue.

The New York Police Department say the accident occurred when the Dodge rear-ended the Marquis at a red light in the intersection. The impact killed a 27-year-old passenger who was sitting in the back of the car and caused the 54-year-old cab driver of the vehicle to be knocked unconscious; he was treated at a nearby hospital.

The force of the impact caused the trunk of the car to be pushed all the way in, according to an eyewitness. The driver of the Charger was a 37-year-old who remained on scene. Both he and a 29-year-old passenger were also treated at the hospital for inconsequential injuries. Police charged the driver with criminally negligent homicide, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and vehicle manslaughter.

Because the37-year-old was charged for multiple offenses, it is probable that his negligence is responsible for the woman's wrongful death. The specific reasons he struck the cab are unclear, but it seems that there was sufficient evidence for police to deem him responsible for the car accident. If a personal injury attorney is hired to assist in the case, he or she may be able to hold the Charger driver's insurance company liable to settle with the family members of the deceased victim for any damages that occurred as a result. Often, whenever a victim is killed because of another driver's negligence, the family members may experience pain and suffering for years to come. It could also take significant time to recover financially from the event.
