Volvo intends to make "death-proof" cars

Most New York residents will experience a car accident at some point in their lifetime. The car manufacturer Volvo has released a statement that the company intends to make "death-proof" cars by 2020 by combining some of the latest safety features.

The Swedish-based company plans to use new autonomous technologies to help make its cars safer. One example of these features is adaptive cruise control. It allows users to set a maximum speed but uses sensors to keep the vehicle at a safe distance behind the vehicles in front of it.

Collision avoidance technology warns the driver if it appears a crash is likely to occur. At that point, the driver can take action to avoid the crash. If no action is taken, the car will begin automatically braking or taking other steps to avoid the collision.

Lane assistance technology is designed to detect lanes and alert drivers if they begin to drift outside the driving lane. This can help prevent fatigue-related crashes, which are a very common cause of serious car accidents every year.

Cameras can also be employed to detect road signs and to alert drivers of oncoming hazards in the road. Volvo, like several other car manufacturers, is also working to develop driverless cars.

When accidents happen, if there is evidence that a negligent driver caused the accident, that driver's liability insurance company may be required to pay for any damages related to the accident. When technology designed to keep drivers and passengers safe fails to work and results in a car accident, the car manufacturer may be held liable. Any person who has suffered injuries and other damages as a result of a car accident may wish to speak to an attorney experienced in personal injury law about the possibility of filing a claim.
