Hit-and-run car accident injures pedestrian high schooler

In New York, weekday mornings can be extremely busy with vast numbers of people and pedestrians on the road as they make their way around. They could be going to school, work or anywhere in between. Because of that, it is important that motorists pay strict attention to their surroundings to avoid being in an accident. Particularly vulnerable to a crash is a person on a bicycle or a pedestrian. With this in mind, when there are pedestrian and bicycle accidents, those who are affected need to understand that there can be significant problems as a result and a legal filing might be the only way to gain compensation for that.

A teen on the way to school was hit by a car as she waited for the bus at approximately 6:40 a.m. The driver of the vehicle subsequently fled the scene. The female victim, 16, suffered what were said to be serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The vehicle was a 2016 Ford. Its driver, a 24-year-old woman, drove away from the scene, but came back around an hour after the accident. She was placed under arrest for fleeing the scene of an accident with serious injury.

With a pedestrian hit in a motor vehicle accident, the injuries can be substantial. Fatality is a major possibility. Because the pedestrian is in such a vulnerable position, there can be broken bones, internal injury, the need for surgery, an extended hospital stay, problems returning to work or school and more. A person whose injuries are severe enough often needs help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This can place a strain not just financially, but personally and emotionally as well. Insurance companies will frequently try to make an offer of a settlement to try and preclude a legal filing, but these offers are rarely sufficient to cover all the costs that accumulate.

In this incident, a girl going to school was hit by a vehicle at a bus stop. The driver of the vehicle that hit her departed the scene, but later returned. Since the girl was hospitalized with serious injuries, it is imperative that she and her family understand their rights to pursue litigation. Speaking to an attorney who is experienced in cases of a car accident with catastrophic injury can help with filing a claim.
