Failure to diagnose conditions can lead to lawsuits

Receiving a diagnosis for a serious injury or illness can be very upsetting for patients across New York. However, it can also be the first step in treating the condition and getting on the road to recovery. After all, if you do not know what's wrong, it can be all but impossible to know how to make things right.

This is why it is essential for medical professionals to take seriously their obligation to provide patients with standard levels of care when it comes to diagnosing a condition. Failure to do so can be grounds for a legal claim citing medical malpractice or negligence.

For instance, in another state, a man and woman filed a lawsuit against two doctors who allegedly failed to properly diagnose the woman with a hip fracture displacement.

According to reports, the woman had gone to the two radiologists because she was experiencing severe pain in her hip. The doctors took x-rays, but according to the couple's lawsuit, the doctors failed to adequately examine and interpret her x-rays in a timely manner.

Because of this oversight, the woman suffered for two more months until she received her diagnosis. The husband and wife filed a lawsuit against the radiologists seeking damages.

While this case was filed in another state, the events that transpired could have easily happened right here in New York. Doctors in any state can misdiagnose patients or cause unnecessary delays that leave a patient suffering, in pain and possibly feeling worse and worse while they wait for an accurate diagnosis. While not always the case, these oversights and errors can be the result of negligence or carelessness.

Under these circumstances, it could be possible to secure compensation that reflects the damages suffered as a result of a delayed or inaccurate diagnosis. Money won't undo the situation or erase the pain with which patients have suffered, but it can help them cover the expense of treating the condition and compensate them for the physical, emotional and financial damage that has been done.
