Several dead in Long Island car accident

A recent car accident on Long Island killed 3 people and left 4 other people injured, although none of the injuries reported were critical. The accident involved multiple vehicles.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and have even taken temporary custody of the vehicles in order to look them over, but the first indication is that the driver of a Honda did not maintain control of the vehicle and crossed the centerline of the road. The car then hit a Nissan Pathfinder.

When the cars collided, two passengers were thrown from the Honda, and both of these young men died as a result of the accident. A 67-year-old woman was traveling in the Nissan also died from her injuries after being taken to the hospital. A husband and wife in the Nissan, as well as their two children, one who was only 1, were treated at the hospital and are expected to survive the collision.

This tragic case illustrates one often overlooked responsibility of drivers who travel on New York's road, and that is to maintain control of their vehicles. Sometimes, a driver can lose control because of the road conditions or because they experience a medical emergency while driving, and at other times, there is something wrong with the car itself. However, a driver can also lose control because of speeding, which includes traveling too fast for the conditions, or being distracted behind the wheel.

A driver has to keep control of his or her car. If he or she does not, a serious or even fatal accident can be the result. Should this happen, victims or their family members may be eligible to pursue appropriate compensation from the at-fault driver.
