Boxer receives big settlement in medical malpractice case

People suffer many from different injuries each year in New York. Some of the injuries do not require medical attention, but that is not always the case. Many people need to go and see medical professionals after suffering injuries. Sometimes if they wait too long, the injury can get worse and become a much bigger issue. This can be especially troublesome when doctors misdiagnose an injury initially, which can cause it to get worse.

This occurred to a boxer in New York after a fight in 2013. However, the boxer recently settled a personal injury case for $22 million based on the medical malpractice of the doctors at the arena after the fight ended. The boxer suffered brain damage and is currently paralyzed. After the fight, the doctors at the arena did not rush the boxer to the hospital, and the boxer ended up taking a cab to it. The delay in diagnosing a blood clot led to the boxer suffering several strokes and he ended up in a coma.

When doctors first see patients with injuries it is important to have a proper diagnosis. As the case above demonstrates, a delayed diagnosis or missed diagnosis can have severe consequences. The diagnosis is what dictates which surgeries the patient will undergo or what procedures will be done to prevent further damage and start the healing process. If they fail to diagnosis correctly or timely, the patient may be able to receive compensation for the damages that result.

Most of the time doctors diagnose injuries correctly in New York, but unfortunately this is not always the case and injuries can get worse as a result. If this occurs the injured party may want to seek compensation for the damages the doctor caused. This can include further medical bills, lost income and other damages that result. Attorneys understand the complexities of these cases and may be a useful resource.
