Do you drive one of America’s deadliest cars?

Driving through Glen Cove, just like anywhere else in New York, comes with a certain amount of risk. Around any corner can be a driver who is drunk or, more likely the case these day, one that is too busy texting to pay attention to the road. .

By paying attention and staying focused while you are behind the wheel, you can reduce your chances of becoming a victim if the unexpected happens. However, what happens when the danger actually lurks in the machinery of the car itself?

One of the ways that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety measures car safety is by examining driver death rates per vehicle. In general, small cars tend to have the highest driver fatality rates. This is because their smaller frames and structures cannot take the brunt of the impact when a crash occurs. This puts the driver and passengers in a position where they actually absorb more of the impact that they otherwise would in a larger vehicle.

Hatchbacks and small sedans like four-door minicars tend to be at the top of the list for driver fatalities. On the other side, large luxury vehicles and SUVs have the lowest fatality rates.

Since it is impossible to predict whether you or family members will become involved in an accident, it is important to take as many precautions as possible in order to reduce the chances of a fatality if a car wreck does occur. Practicing defensive driving will go a long way to protect the people in your car but choosing a safe automobile will also make a difference. While a small economical car may be better on your wallet and the environment, a larger vehicle with a more robust structure could make a major difference in a crash.

Unfortunately, even driving a tank may not help you avoid every potential car accident. If you or a loved one has suffered an injury due to a car wreck with a negligent driver, keep in mind that you have choices. You might be able to file a claim for your injuries and the damages to your vehicle and win the compensation you deserve.
