Scaffolding collapses and seriously injures worker

The streets of New York can be very crowded during the day. In addition to the normal foot traffic, there is often construction work going on causing sidewalks to be either narrowed or closed. There are also many situations when scaffolding is placed over a sidewalk forcing pedestrians to walk underneath it while work is going on above them. For this reason, it is important that scaffolding is constructed correctly to keep both workers and pedestrians safe.

Unfortunately, one recent incident highlights just how important this issue can be. There, scaffolding collapsed onto a sidewalk as workers were taking it down. Workers nearby described it as sounding like a car accident. Two pedestrians were injured, but the most seriously hurt was a worker. Witnesses stated that his arm looked like it was badly injured. None of the harm suffered was life-threatening, though, and all are expected to recover. The company was fined $25,000 for failing to safeguard the area.

These types of construction accidents can be devastating. The injured parties in the accident mentioned above will survive, but the recovery process may take some time, especially the worker whose arm was badly hurt. While his arm is healing he may not be able to work. He will also likely incur significant medical bills. This can leave this worker and other workers like him in a tough financial spot. Luckily, these workers may be entitled to compensation for their injuries, which can ease the financial burdens they face.

Unfortunately, this type of accident is not an isolated incident, as there are many construction accidents every year in New York. Many workers are injured as a result, and they may face difficult circumstances as they recover. It is important that these injured workers receive the compensation they deserve. It may therefore be useful for them to consult with an experienced attorney who may be able to help them build the legal arguments they need to obtain the compensation they need.
